This study aimed to investigate coping strategies, the group environment and the sporting performance of amateur volleyball athletes. 208 athletes participating in the Maringá Amateur Volleyball League participated in the study, divided into two groups, medalists and non-medalists. The Group Environment Questionnaire and the Athletic Coping Strategies Inventory were used. For comparison, the “t” test was used and for the impact of variables on performance, multivariate analysis using binary logistic regression was used. The results showed that medal-winning athletes use the following coping strategies with the greatest impact on sporting results: “performance under pressure, confrontation with adversity and concentration”. In group cohesion, medalists are attracted to the task, non-medalists are attracted to the social group. It is concluded that the best performing amateur volleyball athletes use coping strategies focused on performing to the maximum even under pressure, facing adversity, reducing pressure for results and directing the team to carry out tasks during matches.
