Introduction: Current literature has shown that bienestar derives from two distinct philosophical traditions, the first is the hedonistic view that focuses on searching for the place and avoiding pain, and the second on eudaimonic bienestar that focuses on living a life of self-realization (Ryan & Deci, 2001).
Objective: Validate the Eudaimonic Wellbeing in Sport Scale (Eudaimonic Wellbeing in Sport Scale, EWBSS, Kouali et al., 2020); in athletes from different sports through the analysis of their psychometric properties, reliability, convergent, discriminant and predictive validity.
Methodology: a total of 700 athletes aged 12 to 40 participated.
Results: The reliability analysis showed adequate levels of internal consistency for the factor that measures the EWBSS scale. Regarding the confirmatory factor analysis, adequate indices will be shown for the unifactorial structure. The discriminant validity was confirmed by a correlation between the five positive and significant items in both study 1 and 2. The convergent validity demonstrated an adequate validity in both a unifactorial and trifactorial way. Associations between eudaimonic well-being with the satisfaction of basic psychological needs and separately with autonomy, competence and relationships are observed. Regarding sports, the predictive validity of the EWBSS scale is demonstrated, indicating that in the first regression the eudaimonic well-being positively predicts the satisfaction of basic psychological needs and negatively with the frustration of basic psychological needs, and in the second regression where the analyzes suggest that the eudaimonic well-being of sportsmen presents a greater influences the satisfaction of the need for autonomy and competence, as well as the satisfaction of the need for relationship, in the third regression, this association is not confirmed, with the frustration of basic needs.
Discussion Based on the results obtained, it is considered that the EWBSS is a valid and reliable instrument to carry out future studies in different sectors of sports in Mexico, fulfilling the objective of this investigation.
