Resumen

Gender inequality issues within the sports industry are generally reviewed through the lens of sport participation, representation, and elite performance, whereas the formative mechanisms surrounding these issues have yet to be properly researched. Motor development represents the primary intermediary pathway to sport participation and coaching, however the accessibility of these formative movement experiences is inequitably distributed according to gender. The current scoping literature review amalgamates the discussion surrounding gender inequality among motor development and the structural sporting industry impediment that these issues represent. A search through both the Scopus and PubMed libraries yielded a total of 16 studies that represent a broad array of study types, locations, and topics of motor development, all relating to gender inequality. The outcomes of the thematic literary analysis indicate that gender inequality within the domain of motor development is socially led and pathologically contagious to gender inequality in the sporting industry. The current scoping review illustrates the pivotal structural element that motor development represents to improve gender equality within the sporting industry.
