Canyoning is a risk sport increasingly practiced in Spain. Perceived risk may be influenced by several factors and affect its practice. Thus, the aim of this study is to explore the differences in risk perception according to gender, professionalization (whether federated or not) and history of accidents suffered and, in addition, to analyze the possible relationships between risk perception, age and/or years of experience. For this purpose, 320 people (73.1% men and 26.9% women) were evaluated by means of the International Fitness Scale (IFIS) and the Risk Perception Scale for canyoners. The results show that previous accidents, professionalization and gender affect the risk perception of canyoneers, as well as age and years of experience. It would be interesting to disseminate training campaigns about action protocols in less experienced and younger canyoneers, as well as to pay special attention to other factors, such as age, gender and self-perceived physical condition, as they may influence the risk perception of canyoners.
