THEME OF PUBLICATION

-Article of original research: basic research work and/or implemented. We will give priority to randomized empirical research and those works that present multivariate analyses.

-Articles of didactic experiences developed and investigated with empirical work.

-Quantitative systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses, exclusively.

The views and opinions expressed in each work are the sole responsibility of the author, without responsibility or solidarity necessarily neither the wording nor the publisher.

PERIODICITY AND REJECTION RATE

Since March 2024, the journal will publish one issue monthly, at the beginning of each month.

It aims to have a rejection rate of 75% or more in the medium term.

Peer Review Process

The articles are evaluated anonymously by our reviewers, either from the Scientific Committee or from the Database of Reviewers that we have and who have already been reviewers for the Retos journal. These are updated and published periodically. In the event of a clear disagreement between the reviewers, a new opinion will be requested.

The Editorial Team undertakes that the period of time that elapses from the final acceptance does not exceed two months, except for causes beyond its control.

Once the article has been received, the author(s) will be notified of its receipt by the editorial office of the journal. All the works received will be examined by the Editorial Team of the journal «Retos», which will decide whether they meet the sufficient conditions to proceed to the peer review process, that is, whether they fit into the editorial line and the sections covered by the journal, whether it is of interest to readers, whether it meets the requirements of the journal, as well as the different formal aspects indicated in the rules for authors. A reference code will be assigned to the authors and will be communicated to them. Articles rejected in this first evaluation will be returned to the author, indicating the reasons why their work has not been accepted. Likewise, the authors of all those works that, having passed this first filter, do not present the formal requirements set out in these regulations, will be required to correct the deficiencies detected as soon as possible. During this time, the work will remain on deposit, and the author may request the return of the manuscript if he or she so considers.

Once this initial stage has been completed, all manuscripts will be reviewed anonymously by evaluators (referees) from the Scientific Committee or by the reviewers available in our Database of Reviewers who are experts in the subject of the original work, who will be selected by the Editorial Team, and who are of recognized solvency and without institutional ties to the journal. The evaluators are independent and external to the journal and will judge the suitability of its publication and, if necessary, will suggest the appropriate corrections. The review method used is “double-blind” (anonymity of author and evaluators), with a member of the Editorial Team being in charge of establishing contact between the two.

The manuscript and the experts’ report are, without a doubt, confidential documents and should not be discussed with colleagues. Only the journal director and/or the person responsible for the Editorial Team will be aware of them. The person will send, completely anonymously, the final report with all the comments issued by the members of the corresponding thematic area who have evaluated the article in question to the author(s). That is, the report sent to the author(s) will include reasons for the acceptance, revision or rejection of the manuscript, as well as the original or revised opinions issued by the journal director by the reviewers so that the author(s) can respond to them, reply to them or accept them.

The Editorial Team will periodically check the quality and usefulness of the evaluation reports prepared by the evaluators in order to reorient the external evaluation policy, remove reviewers from the Scientific Committee and the Reviewers Database, and redesign the sheets and instructions given to the reviewers.

The authors may indicate some people who, for various reasons, do not wish to be involved in the review process of their work. Likewise, the author(s) may suggest names of experts (from the Scientific Committee or not) suitable for the evaluation of their originals, regardless of whether or not they are later used for this purpose by the journal, once the proposal has been analyzed by the Editorial Team of the journal.

After hearing the reviewers' suggestions, the result of the evaluation process may be:
1. Acceptance of the article.
2. Rejection of the works that are not considered appropriate.
3. Acceptance subject to the necessary rectifications for its acceptance.

The Editorial Team will send any of these reports to the authors through the journal's platform and reserves the right to negotiate with them some changes in the originals to adapt them to the forecasts of each issue. From the moment this second phase of evaluation of the articles begins, in a time not exceeding three months, except for causes beyond its control, the authors will receive notification through the journal's platform, to the email address provided, of the result of the evaluation of the article and, if it is accepted without the need to make corrections, approximately when it will be published. The Editorial Team undertakes that the period of time that elapses from the final acceptance does not exceed two months. All accepted articles will be published in the digital format of the journal. The author can follow the evaluation process of his article at the web address https://recyt.fecyt.es/index.php/retos/index, more specifically in the status section of the articles, where the date of receipt, sending to reviewers, acceptance and publication are indicated.

Once the article is accepted for publication, it is sent to Editing to make all the formal, spelling, typographical and grammatical corrections that are necessary to ensure that the article is perfect in all its aspects. Under no circumstances may the content of the text that has been approved by the reviewers be altered, nor may the bibliographical references be altered, without the express authorization of the editor in the event that the authors consider in the final review that it will be necessary to include or eliminate some type of information. Likewise, it is strictly forbidden to add or remove authors from the platform from the moment the submission is made and much less once it has been accepted. In any case, they will request authorization from the Editor and will outline the requested changes in the text. After this phase, the text is sent to Production to make the final layout and send the galley proofs of the designed version to the author(s) for a final review and possible correction. Once the corrected text is received, it will be definitively published. If the authors identify any error, it will be brought to the editor's attention immediately for correction.

Authors must verify that all citations and references correspond to the text of the article and do not include references that are not related to the topic of the article or the context in which they are cited. If any are detected once the article has been published, it will be retracted. Likewise, it is necessary to verify that the reference links work and correspond to the article that has been referenced. If this is reported and verified, the article will be retracted from the journal for bad practices.
