Introduction: Innovation and intellectual property protection in the sports sector have gained increasing relevance, particularly in the Guayas region of Ecuador, where the development of new technologies and sports products presents regulatory and legal challenges.
Objective: The study aimed to analyze the relationship between the level of innovation in sports and intellectual property protection, identifying barriers and needs for its strengthening.
Methodology: A quantitative approach was used, with a correlational and explanatory design. The sample consisted of 240 participants linked to the sports sector in Guayas. Structured surveys were applied, and statistical analyses, including linear regression, t-tests, and ANOVA, were conducted.
Results: The results showed a significant relationship between innovation and the level of intellectual property protection in the sports sector. Barriers such as lack of knowledge about patents and difficulties in rights management were identified. Likewise, needs such as specialized training and the creation of favorable public policies were highlighted.
Discussion: In the discussion, the findings were contrasted with previous studies, demonstrating the need to strengthen intellectual protection in sports through legislative and educational strategies.
Conclusions: It was concluded that strengthening intellectual property in the sports sector is essential to boost innovation and market growth, recommending greater incentives and increased dissemination of protection mechanisms.
