Introduction: Overtraining syndrome (OTS) is a clinical-sports condition characterized by decreased sports performance in the athlete that leads to a deterioration in physical, psychological and emotional health, the probable cause is related to an imbalance between training loads and recovery periods. Objective: To determine the relationship between sleep quality and early manifestations of overtraining syndrome in a Colombian professional team. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in Colombian male soccer players, with measurement of OTS manifestations through the French Society of Sports Medicine Questionnaire (SMFS) and evaluation of sleep quality through the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Statistical analysis was performed in the R software program. Results: 83 players with mean age of 19 ± 4.2 years were evaluated, the distribution by categories was professional 30.1%, U-20 38.5% and U-17 31.3%, the training load was 18, 21, 8 hours training week respectively. A poor sleep quality of 67.47% was found and it is highlighted that 21% (n=17/83) of the athletes present early manifestations of SOT syndrome. Conclusions: It is concluded that alterations in the quality, latency, duration and efficiency of the sleep pattern in male professional soccer players of different categories are related to the presence of early manifestations of SOT.
