Este estudo utilizou a revisão sistemática da literatura para rever o papel do treino de competências motoras nas competências de leitura crítica em alunos do ensino básico. Os dados foram obtidos a partir de artigos pesquisados através do Google Scholar. A pesquisa centrou-se naqueles publicados em revistas indexadas no Scopus publicados em 2019 - 2024. Os periódicos foram selecionados tendo em conta critérios de inclusão e exclusão. As palavras-chave utilizadas foram; «Papel e Prática e Competências Motoras e Capacidade Crítica de Leitura e Alunos do Ensino Primário». Da pesquisa no período 2019-2014 foram encontrados 17.400 artigos. Além disso, foram revistos novamente em várias etapas e resultaram em 20 artigos que se enquadravam no tema e cumpriam os requisitos de inclusão. Durante a seleção dos artigos, este estudo seguiu as diretrizes do PRISMA. Os resultados deste estudo confirmam que o desenvolvimento das competências motoras grossas e finas desempenha um papel significativo no apoio ao desenvolvimento das competências cognitivas e académicas, especialmente na melhoria das competências de leitura crítica em alunos do ensino primário. A relação positiva entre as capacidades motoras e o desempenho académico, apoiada por ambientes físicos estimulantes e abordagens de aprendizagem baseadas em brincadeiras, realça a importância da integração da actividade física no currículo do ensino primário. Além disso, é necessário o apoio de várias partes, incluindo professores, pais e comunidades, para garantir um ambiente propício ao desenvolvimento das competências motoras e cognitivas dos alunos. No entanto, desafios como a falta de instalações desportivas, as diferenças de género e um currículo desequilibrado devem ser ultrapassados para alcançar resultados óptimos. A consequência destes resultados é a necessidade de uma abordagem holística e abrangente à educação que não se concentre apenas nos académicos, mas também integre o desenvolvimento motor para apoiar competências de leitura crítica, que são essenciais para o futuro sucesso académico dos alunos.
