Inalação de amónia para melhorar o desempenho físico e a tolerância ao exercício em indivíduos fisicamente ativos e atletas: uma revisão sistemática

Resumo

A inalação de amoníaco (IA) tem ganho popularidade entre diversas populações atléticas e indivíduos fisicamente ativos.
No entanto, estudos investigaram o efeito da IA ​​em vários aspetos do desempenho físico e da tolerância ao exercício, reportando resultados conflituantes.
Pesquisámos artigos originais em inglês nas bases de dados PubMed, Mendeley e Cochrane Library, desde o início até junho de 2024, de acordo com a declaração PRISMA.
Foram encontrados 750 registos, dos quais oito cumpriam os critérios de inclusão. Estes estudos incluíram 120 homens e 22 mulheres. Entre os parâmetros físicos analisados, os mais utilizados foram as medidas de força e cardiorrespiratórias, o nível de esforço percebido, o desempenho neuromuscular e o desempenho em testes específicos do desporto. Quatro dos oito estudos reportaram efeitos positivos da IA, enquanto três estudos não encontraram alterações estatisticamente significativas nestes parâmetros.
No entanto, num estudo que examinou a estabilidade postural em golfistas, o uso de IA resultou numa diminuição da componente de desempenho. Apenas um estudo investigou atletas profissionais.
A inalação de amoníaco é um método seguro e prático, com potencial para melhorar alguns aspetos do desempenho físico e da tolerância ao exercício.
Existe também uma escassez de investigação sobre este tema, e estudos futuros deverão examinar um maior número de participantes, incluindo atletas de elite de uma maior variedade de desportos.
