Stressores académicos e o seu impacto na alimentação emocional em estudantes universitários: implicações para a saúde física e o bem-estar

Resumo

Introdução: Atualmente, as exigências académicas afetam a saúde física e emocional dos estudantes universitários, que recorrem frequentemente à alimentação emocional como forma de lidar com o stress académico.
Objectivo: Determinar os stressores académicos que predizem a alimentação emocional numa amostra de estudantes de uma universidade privada da Amazónia peruana.
Metodologia: Adotou-se uma abordagem quantitativa, com um desenho preditivo não experimental. A amostra foi constituída por 310 estudantes universitários, que responderam ao Questionário de Stressores Académicos e ao Questionário de Alimentação Emocional, instrumentos com propriedades psicométricas adequadas.
Resultados: O modelo de regressão foi estatisticamente significativo (F= 7,817, p<0,05), explicando 24% da variância da alimentação emocional (R²= 0,240). Entre os stressores académicos, aqueles que previram níveis significativamente mais elevados de alimentação emocional foram: assumir custos económicos relacionados com os cursos (β= 0,261), conciliar o trabalho e os cursos (β= 0,236), conciliar o estudo e a família (β= 0,206) e relacionar-se com os colegas de turma (β= 0,176).
Discussão: Embora alguns estudos apoiem que os fatores stressantes académicos podem prever a alimentação emocional, há pouca investigação que identifique especificamente quais destes fatores têm o maior impacto. Isto realça a necessidade de aprofundar este tipo de análise no contexto universitário.
Conclusões: As dificuldades em relacionar-se com os colegas, conciliar o trabalho com os cursos, conciliar os estudos com a vida familiar e enfrentar os custos económicos associados à educação são stressores académicos que predizem significativamente a alimentação emocional.
