Relação entre atividade física e qualidade do sono em estudantes universitários: um estudo transversal

Resumo

Introdução: A relação entre a atividade física e a qualidade do sono tem despertado um crescente interesse em ambientes universitários devido ao seu impacto no bem-estar geral dos estudantes.
Objectivo: Analisar a relação entre a actividade física e a qualidade do sono entre estudantes universitários de uma instituição de ensino superior.
Metodologia: Foi realizado um estudo quantitativo, transversal e correlacional com 1.118 estudantes universitários em Guayaquil, Equador. Os questionários PSQI e IPAQ-SF foram utilizados para avaliar a qualidade do sono e a atividade física, respetivamente. Os dados foram analisados ​​através dos testes de qui-quadrado, teste U de Mann-Whitney, correlação de Spearman e regressão logística binária.
Resultados: Um total de 71,2% dos participantes apresentava má qualidade do sono. Não foram encontradas associações estatisticamente significativas entre o nível de atividade física e a qualidade do sono (p > 0,05), embora se tenha observado uma tendência não significativa para um menor risco de sono deficiente nos alunos inativos.
Discussão: Estes achados contrastam com estudos anteriores que relatam benefícios do exercício físico no sono, sugerindo potencial mediação por variáveis ​​como a saúde mental, o cronótipo, a nutrição e o uso de tecnologia. Salienta-se a necessidade de abordagens abrangentes e personalizadas em pesquisas futuras.
Conclusões: Embora não tenha sido identificada qualquer associação significativa, os achados desafiam as explicações simplistas e corroboram o delineamento de intervenções multidimensionais nas universidades. Recomenda-se o desenvolvimento de futuros estudos longitudinais que incorporem variáveis ​​intermédias e utilizem métodos de medição objetivos.
