Actividad física y bienestar percibido en estudiantes universitarios: implicaciones para la salud mental

Resumen

Introducción: La salud mental en universitarios, representa un impacto en el bienestar, el rendimiento académico y la calidad de vida, así mismo se reconoce a la actividad física como protector, sin embargo, hay desconocimiento sobre el impacto del uso de los entornos universitarios en ella.

Objetivo: Analizar la asociación entre actividad física y bienestar percibido en universitarios, considerando el uso de zonas verdes como variable contextual y sus implicaciones para la salud mental.

Metodología: Investigación cuantitativa, observacional, analítica y de corte transversal con 626 estudiantes universitarios. Se evaluó variables sociodemográficas, uso de zonas verdes, actividad física derivada del IPAQ versión corta y bienestar percibido basado en el WHO-5. Se efectuaron análisis descriptivos, pruebas de normalidad, correlación de Spearman, comparación por grupos mediante Kruskal-Wallis, regresión lineal y regresión logística exploratoria para riesgo de bajo bienestar.

Resultados: Se encontró que el bienestar percibido presentó una media de 65.8 ± 16.1, el índice de uso de zonas verdes una media de 45.7 ± 22.4, y predominó un nivel bajo de actividad física (81.3%). La actividad física mostró asociación positiva con el bienestar percibido (rho = .312; p < .001), mientras que el uso de zonas verdes no presentó asociación significativa en el modelo ajustado.

Discusión: los reportes indican que la actividad física es un predictor que influye en la salud mental y el bienestar de los universitarios, donde los entornos universitarios fomentan la interacción social.

Conclusión: La población tiene bajos niveles de actividad física lo que induce a una vulnerabilidad en la salud mental, con implicaciones en su bienestar percibido, donde el uso de entornos universitarios es importante.
