Abstract

Introduction: There is a growing interest in the technical-tactical analysis of Olympic boxing, but the lack of validated instruments in Portuguese limits the understanding of athletes' performance. The Boxing Performance Analysis Template (BPAT), validated for the technical analysis of Olympic boxing, is a useful tool but is not yet available in Portuguese.

Objective: This study aimed to translate the BPAT into Portuguese, facilitating its use by Lusophone researchers and professionals.

Methodology: The translation process was followed by intra- and inter-observer analyses to verify data consistency. The BPAT categorizes offensive, defensive, and feint actions by type, target area, and outcome.

Results: Intra-observer agreement showed no significant differences (P > 0.05) between tests and retests. The proportion of perfect agreement (PA) ranged from 93% to 100%, reaching 100% with the reference value of ±1 (PA±1). Inter-observer agreement between Analyst A and Analyst B ranged from 89% to 100%, achieving 100% for PA±1.

Discussion: The BPAT translation demonstrated excellent intra-observer reliability and good inter-observer agreement, especially with a tolerance of ±1. However, feint actions showed lower consistency due to their subtle nature, consistent with the original instrument.

Conclusion: The study validated the BPAT for Portuguese, demonstrating high reliability for attacks and defenses. This instrument represents a robust tool for technical-tactical analysis in Olympic boxing, despite challenges in analyzing feints.
