Introduction: Physical condition and endurance are aspects that can contribute to athlete performance, especially at karate kata events where athletes require explosive movements, balance, speed and endurance. Tabata-style HIIT is a popular way to train physical performance in little time.
Objective: To discover and make Tabata Training Model with the method of Decaying Exhaustion as a non-attack technique to improve stamina and performance on old Kata karate athlete, and test on effectiveness of training model.
Methodology: The training model was developed based on the attributes related to karate kata movements and evaluated through expert evaluation and field application. Physical performance tests and endurance tests were used to collect data in addition to the athlete response questionnaire. These data were descriptively and quantitatively analyzed to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of the developed model.
Results: The results showed that the Tabata Training model generated was valid, practical and effective for improving stamina; stability of motion; endurance and overall kata performance. Athletes demonstrated increased training motivation and better physical adaptation after participating in the program.
Discussion: The results support previous studies indicating that High-Intensity Interval Training contributes positively to aerobic and anaerobic capacity, muscle power, and sport-specific performance. The integration of karate-specific movements into the Tabata model provided more relevant training stimuli for kata athletes.
Conclusions: The developed Tabata Training model can be used as an effective and efficient training alternative to improve stamina and performance in senior kata karate athletes.
