Magazine History
"Retos" was founded by the Spanish Federation of Physical Education Teachers (FEADEF) in September 2001, with the first issue published in January 2002. Its objective is to publish original articles related to physical activity, sport, rehabilitation, nutrition, and health, along with their associated professional fields. Thematic areas include: initial and continuing teacher training, physical education, play, body expression, physical activities in natural environments, special educational needs, assessment, children's motor skills, school sports, sports training, physical conditioning, sports management, physical activity, quality of life, physiology, biomechanics, ergonomics, sports psychology, gender, leisure and recreation, cross-cutting themes, sports medicine, physiotherapy, functional rehabilitation, nutrition, and health.
Since March 2024, a new issue has been published monthly, on the first day of each month, due to its significant growth in popularity. However, the journal continues to strive for quality and excellence, with a short- to medium-term goal of achieving a rejection rate of at least 75%. To this end, a target number of articles per volume will be established once the journal's growth has been observed. Until now, we have published four issues per year, from January 2021 to July 2024. From 2002 to 2021, we published two issues per year. We accept submissions of basic and/or applied research, theoretical reviews, popular science articles, and/or reports on teaching experiences in any of the aforementioned thematic areas. Prior to publication, all submissions are anonymously reviewed by our peers. Articles will be published in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. From issue 11 onwards, titles, abstracts, and keywords in the original language and in English are included in all articles, except when the original language is English or Portuguese, in which case the abstract and keywords must be in Spanish.
We hope that the journal will become a forum for disseminating research, new trends, and perspectives that will help our members, and all teachers and researchers in general, to innovate in their work and improve their educational and training activities. This is one of our greatest challenges.
The organizational guidelines and editorial criteria are established by the Editorial Team with the advice of the Scientific Committee, composed of professors and experts from various national and international universities and institutions. The concepts and opinions expressed in each work are the sole responsibility of the author, and neither the editorial staff nor the publisher necessarily assume any responsibility or endorse them.
It has been published in print (ISSN: 1579-1726) since 2002 and electronically (online) (ISSN: 1988-2041), implemented in 2007, with full text available in PDF.
Looking to the future, "Retos" will strive to remain a journal open to any approach or orientation supported by arguments and strong data, so that all authors who can convince our reviewers that their manuscripts are of publication quality will find a place.
We understand that a firm commitment to quality is the best way to serve our readers, whose suggestions are always welcome. As a result, we updated its look and design in February 2010 to make it faster and easier to navigate, as well as to correct any errors we have identified. With everyone's help, we will continue to improve it every day. "Retos" is open to correcting any errors detected in any issue published to date.
