Explorando o papel da atividade física regular na prevenção de acidentes vasculares cerebrais

Resumo

Introdução: O AVC é uma das principais causas de incapacidade e mortalidade, realçando a necessidade de estratégias preventivas eficazes. A actividade física é um factor chave na redução do risco, mas o impacto das diferentes modalidades de exercício e níveis de adesão ainda requer mais investigação. Objectivo: Este estudo avaliou o impacto da atividade física moderada a vigorosa no risco de AVC, diferenciando entre exercícios aeróbicos e anaeróbicos, treino intervalado de alta intensidade e resistência em estado estacionário. Além disso, examinou se a adesão à atividade física influenciava de forma independente a sua prevenção.
Metodologia: foi realizado um estudo de coorte prospetivo com 400 participantes, avaliando os seus níveis de atividade física e a incidência de AVC. A regressão logística multinomial e o modelo de riscos proporcionais de Cox foram utilizados para analisar os tipos de exercício e avaliar os efeitos da adesão.
Resultados: Estes resultados são consistentes com pesquisas anteriores que destacam os benefícios cardiovasculares do exercício aeróbico, desafiando a ideia de que a adesão por si só é o fator chave na prevenção do AVC. Realçam a necessidade de otimizar as recomendações de exercício, dando prioridade a modalidades específicas para indivíduos com maior risco de sofrer um AVC.
Discussão: Estes resultados reforçam a investigação anterior sobre os benefícios cardiovasculares do exercício aeróbico e questionam o papel da adesão por si só na prevenção do AVC, destacando a necessidade de recomendações específicas de exercício baseadas em evidências.
Conclusões: Este estudo reafirma a importância do exercício aeróbio na prevenção do AVC e realça a necessidade de programas estruturados de atividade física nas guidelines de saúde pública. Pesquisas futuras deverão explorar os efeitos a longo prazo de vários regimes de exercício em diversas populações para otimizar as estratégias de prevenção do AVC.
