Conhecimento nutricional dos utilizadores de suplementos desportivos na Jordânia: um estudo transversal

Resumo

Introdução: Um conhecimento adequado sobre nutrição é essencial para o uso informado de suplementos alimentares e para algumas práticas seguras de nutrição desportiva. Este estudo avaliou os conhecimentos nutricionais, os padrões de utilização de suplementos e os fatores que influenciam o consumo entre os utilizadores de suplementos alimentares na Jordânia.

Métodos: Este estudo transversal incluiu 400 utilizadores de suplementos alimentares de quatro governos jordanos. Os dados foram recolhidos através da versão abreviada e validada em árabe do Questionário de Conhecimentos sobre Nutrição Desportiva, Questionário de Conhecimentos sobre Nutrição Desportiva, bem como uma consulta sobre o uso de suplementos e as características sociodemográficas.

Resultados: A proteína de suor (49,8%) e a creatina (27,3%) são os suplementos mais utilizados, principalmente para ganhar massa muscular. A maioria dos participantes demonstrou um baixo nível de conhecimentos gerais sobre nutrição (39,4%) e de conhecimentos sobre nutrição desportiva (81,0%); apenas os 3,0% obtiveram uma boa pontuação nos conhecimentos de nutrição desportiva. Um maior nível de conhecimentos nutricionais associou-se significativamente à idade, ao nível educativo, aos ingressos e ao hábito tabágico, enquanto os conhecimentos sobre nutrição desportiva também mostraram associação com o sexo.

Conclusões: Os utilizadores de suplementos alimentares demonstraram ter conhecimentos limitados sobre nutrição desportiva, em detrimento da utilização generalizada destes produtos. É necessária uma educação nutricional específica para promover práticas de suplementação baseadas na evidência.
