O papel da prática de desporto organizado nos níveis de atividade física e gasto energético de adolescentes sérvios: um estudo com recurso à monitorização objetiva

Introdução: A atividade física é importante para a saúde durante a adolescência, enquanto o gasto energético representa uma componente chave do balanço energético diário.
Objectivo: Este estudo examinou as diferenças na actividade física e no gasto energético, medidos objectivamente, entre os adolescentes que praticavam desporto e os que não praticavam, de acordo com o sexo e o tipo de dia, diferenciando entre dias de aulas e dias de fim-de-semana.
Metodologia: O estudo incluiu 115 adolescentes (53 do sexo masculino e 62 do sexo feminino; idade: 14,0 ± 0,6 anos) de uma escola primária de Belgrado, classificados como participantes em atividades desportivas (n = 63) ou não participantes (n = 52). A atividade física e o gasto energético foram avaliados objetivamente através do dispositivo SenseWear Pro3 Armband em dois dias de aulas e dois dias de fim de semana.
Resultados: As mulheres que participavam em atividades desportivas organizadas apresentaram um maior dispêndio energético total (p = 0,023, g = 0,59) e um maior dispêndio energético proveniente da atividade física (p = 0,007, g = 0,70) do que as não participantes. Aos fins de semana, as mulheres apresentaram também valores mais elevados para o gasto energético total (p = 0,007, g = 0,71), gasto energético com atividade física (p = 0,001, g = 0,88), atividade física vigorosa (p = 0,001, g = 0,86) e atividade física total (p = 0,003, g = 0,78). Não foram observadas diferenças significativas entre os grupos no grupo masculino.
Discussão: Os resultados corroboram evidências anteriores que indicam diferenças mais significativas entre participantes e não participantes nas mulheres do que nos homens, principalmente aos fins de semana.
Conclusão: A participação em atividades desportivas organizadas esteve associada a níveis mais elevados de atividade física e de gasto energético, especialmente entre as mulheres. Estratégias dirigidas a mulheres que não participam em atividades desportivas e que não têm dias de folga escolar podem ser importantes para melhorar os níveis de atividade física.
