Introduction: This study addresses the constitutional guarantees of the right to recreation in Ecuador, focusing on its concrete expression in community settings through recreational games. These practices, beyond mere entertainment, are linked to the exercise of fundamental rights and the development of active citizenship.
Objective: To analyze the constitutional guarantees of the right to recreation in Ecuador, using the format of community-based recreational games as the main axis of study.
Methodology: A quantitative approach was adopted, with a non-experimental, descriptive and correlational design. A structured questionnaire of 30 items was applied to a non-probabilistic sample of 120 individuals. The instrument was validated through Cronbach’s alpha (α = 0.892), and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Spearman’s correlations, and non-parametric tests.
Results: Community-based recreational games facilitated the exercise of rights such as participation, equality, and cultural identity. Significant correlations were observed between the frequency of participation in these activities and the perception of constitutional rights. Additionally, a positive impact on social cohesion, collective well-being, and the empowerment of historically excluded groups was identified.
Discussion: Findings confirm that recreational activities, when guided by a rights-based approach, strengthen the social fabric and promote inclusion, cultural memory, and civic engagement.
Conclusions: Community recreation constitutes an effective mechanism to ensure constitutional rights. It is recommended that this perspective be incorporated into inclusive, sustainable, and culturally relevant public policies.
