O exercício moderado e excessivo afetam a qualidade do esperma e o stress oxidativo de diferentes formas em ratos

Introdução: A intensidade do exercício influencia a função reprodutiva masculina. O exercício moderado pode promover adaptações fisiológicas, enquanto o treino excessivo pode induzir stress oxidativo e alterações endócrinas.
Objectivo: Este estudo investigou os efeitos diferenciais do exercício aeróbico moderado e excessivo na qualidade do esperma, na testosterona e nos biomarcadores de stress oxidativo em ratos Wistar machos.
Metodologia: Vinte e quatro ratos Wistar machos foram aleatoriamente alocados aos grupos controlo, exercício moderado (20–25 min/dia) e exercício excessivo (50 min/dia). O exercício de natação foi realizado durante 6 semanas. A concentração, a motilidade e a morfologia dos espermatozoides, a testosterona sérica, o peso testicular, o malondialdeído (MDA) e a creatina quinase (CK) foram avaliados através de procedimentos laboratoriais padrão.
Resultados: O exercício moderado resultou em melhorias não significativas na qualidade do esperma e nos níveis de testosterona, com apenas pequenas alterações no stress oxidativo. Em contraste, o exercício excessivo reduziu significativamente a concentração, a motilidade, a morfologia e a testosterona dos espermatozoides (todos com p < 0,001), enquanto aumentou significativamente os níveis de MDA e CK (ambos com p < 0,001) e reduziu o peso testicular (p < 0,001).
Discussão: Os resultados indicam que as respostas reprodutivas ao exercício aeróbio são dependentes da intensidade. O exercício moderado pareceu manter a homeostase reprodutiva, enquanto o exercício excessivo foi associado a uma diminuição da espermatogénese, disfunção hormonal e aumento do stress oxidativo.
Conclusões: O exercício aeróbico excessivo pode prejudicar a função reprodutiva masculina através do stress oxidativo e de alterações hormonais, enquanto o exercício moderado parece ser compatível com a sua preservação.
