Introduction: Harmonious passion is related to high resilience, while obsessive passion produces low resilience or no resilience. Is it hypothesized that higher levels of harmonious passion and resilience act as predictive variables for a lower level of overtraining in amateur mountain bike riders?
Objective: The present study aimed to analyze the variables of passion and resilience as predictors of over-training in amateur mountain bike cyclists.
Methodology: 108 cyclists participated in the study. Participants responded to the Passion Scale Questionnaire, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (Cd-Risc-10) and the overtraining questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov, One-Way Anova, Pearson Correlation and Multiple Linear Regression tests (p < 0.05).
Results: The results demonstrated that harmonious passion correlated positively with obsessive passion and resilience and negatively with overtraining, a fact also verified between resilience and overtraining. The model consisting of the dimensions of passion and resilience explained 15% of the variability in over-training perceived by amateur mountain bike riders. Only resilience presented a negative prediction on overtraining (β = -0.25; p <0.05). When comparing according to practice time, no significant differences were found between the age groups.
Conclusion: The results revealed that the model consisting of the dimensions of passion and resilience explained 15% of the variability in cyclists' perceived over-training. However, only resilience presented a negative prediction on overtraining, indicating that resilience is a predictor of over-training.
